Is North Carolina Homophobic?

    I'm going to be going to highschool there soon. I'm kind of scared. Will people hate me for being gay? Should I even out at all?

    What part of North Carolina? The cities are much more gay friendly. My sister in law lives in Raleigh and I'd say the whole Triangle cities area is pretty open. The American South is definitely a more conservative place, but give the people there a chance. I'm sure it will be a mix of positive and negative experiences like most places.

    Yes, the cities and suburban areas should be more tolerant. Also, remember that throughout the country, it's the youth who are the least homophobic age group. I think it's best to be out from the start to avoid others making assumptions you're straight, and you'll know very quickly who is willing to accept you.
