AFAIK weed has no physical dependence danger. But some people do end up relying on it I suppose.

Personally, no, but I knew a guy who did meth. Knew, past tense. He's dead now.

That's really sad, I'm sorry to hear that. I've never done meth. But i did very dangerous stuff, and unfortunately most of my friends who did them with me are gone.

There are plenty of people here who either struggle with or are in recovery from addictions. The LGBT population as a whole has a larger problem with addiction and substance abuse than the general population, correlated with the psychological issues of being closeted and the shame associated with that.

This is a safe place where you can talk about addiction and feel support for it. You won't find much positive discussion about drug use because the staff discourages it, but if you're looking for help and support, you'll find a lot of others here who either have lived in families with addicts, or have struggled themselves with addiction.

Also, for the record, while there's limited evidence of physical addiction to weed, there is newer evidence that the more potent varieties can and do cause withdrawal symptoms. And there's no question that for some people there's a strong psychological addiction to weed that can take months to overcome once one gives it up. I've worked with a number of professionals in the addiction treatment and recovery fields, and it is seen as a growing problem, with an increasing number of people being admitted to rehab for dependency problems solely with weed.

  12. not sure if it counts but i was prescribed some meds years ago and become addicted to them (i say addicted.... slightly) from being on them two days. i still crave them to this day.

Some people say I have a problem. Does that count?

No, seriously, though.. not me, personally. But a have numerous family members who are or have struggled with various addictions (although I guess you never really stop struggling). You can definitely say it runs in the family.
