They started doing this a few months ago when I had a concussion (about the time that I joined EC). I'm not sure if maybe they're trying to do that weird purr-heal thing (it works on them only, I think) or if maybe they're sick. Thoughts?

maybe your hearing got super-sensitive with the concussion?? I prefer the purr-heal idea though!

I sternly believe that the volume of a cats purrs are decided by the amount of love and care they feel towards their owner. It's totally scientific and stuff, promise.
Its based off my own cats enormous purring abilities.

I'm not a cat-master but I've never heard that cats purr louder when they are sick. Doesn't sound right, you know?

Cats purr not only to show pleasure, but to both comfort themselves and others that they care about. Sometimes if a cat is scared, he'll start purring in the same way that someone might tell themselves 'it's okay' if they're in a frightening situation. Maybe your cats were afraid for you and wanted to comfort you. But yes, it could also be linked to your concussion.
