Do you think people will think I'm disgusting?

Right well first of all a few you may have seen my posts on EC before.

Basically I am one of a set of gay identical twins. Weird right I know? I searched this and apparently if one twin is gay there is something like a 55% chance the other one is too, so not as weird as I thought.

From a young age me and my brother new we were gay but never came out to each other until we were 19. I reckon I discovered I was gay when I was about 10 and was pretty convinced my twin was when I was about 13. However, life seemed easier if we just ignored it and never brought it up. I mean my brother had a few girlfriends through out his teenage years. Myself on the other hand went for the asexual approach.

Anyway, I'm 20 now and I'm out the closet to my Mum, Dad, Auntie and a few close friends. My brother is out to my parents but that's it. So far I've been met with a great reaction! However, my brother now wants to come out the closet to some friends. This is really worrying me.

First of all when I search 'gay identical twins' on the internet all I can find is twincest things and other horrible disgusting things like this :frowning2:

This makes me really worried. Me and my brother are super close as most identical twins are. We have the same friends, same interests, and do pretty much everything together. We're pretty much joined at the hip some say. I'm really worried that if we both come out people will get freaked out and think we're in love with each other or something sick like that. Also we share a bedroom. It wouldn't be appropriate for a brother/sister to share a room, and in a way I guess two gay brother is sort of the same thing :/ I mean obviously we are not in love with each other, we do not indulge in 'twincest' or anything sick like that. Its just stressing me out really bad and worrying me that people will think these things :frowning2: It's upsetting me so much I'm beginning to feel like some sort of sicko.

So what do you guys think? Is this the sort of thing that would jump to your mind? I mean I know a lot of guys have twin fantasies but I can assure you that me and my brother do not engage in any of this horrible stuff.

I don't know about anyone else but this would never occur to me in a million years unless you were a character in a Cracker episode. And probably not until it was almost over.
I think in our various states of anxiety we have a tendency to let our worries over-inflate. I've done this.
If people have creepy minds, that's their failing not yours. You have nothing to be ashamed of. I guess if someone asks you about this, you could give them your best withering look and reply "Do you?"

I wouldn't sweat it... I have a gay brother and we've never done anything nor do either of us have any inclination to do anything together. But it doesn't mean I haven't been asked. Like Really said, turn the question around on them. Or you could dismiss them by saying "sure, but never with you"... hehehe

I know your reaction is one of repulsion and I get that. But perhaps lightening up about it might make it easier to deal with when/if it comes up. I tend to make jokes about everything so find a way to deal with questions like this with a clever answer "Nah, we are both tops...." etc etc....

I guess that's probably true. I think I just get wound up about things easily. Is your brother your twin? Or just like a normal sibling?

Hmm? Brothers and sisters share rooms all the time and I've never known anybody to consider it weird.

Incest is so widely unacceptable it's basically nonexistent as far as I've seen. The notion doesn't even come up unless people are mocking rural southerners, or making some other sort of joke.

I've always been interested in twins, but I would never jump to the conclusion "they're incestuous" just because they're both gay... If people do jump to that conclusion just from such a shallow premise.... then you don't need to waste your time on them.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'm the sort of person that obsesses and worries over stuff so much that I begin to think really stupid stuff. This site rocks. Never fails to re-assure me

Eh, people are going to say stupid stuff to you no matter what you do. My other brother was having lunch yesterday at a local sandwich place and overheard someone say "I don't get mayo, I heard you can catch herpes from it". Don't let stupid people bother you..

As for my brother, he is 10 years my junior. We have different dads, so the resemblance isn't even really there. Its an odd question to ask, but people have asked it.

I say don't listen to them and enjoy the mayo on your sandwich...

Haha thanks. I'll enjoy my mayonaise safe in the knowledge that I won't catch herpes :L

People who would say something like that aren't people worth having as friends so don't worry about it  that's a really really ignorant thing to say in any case.

I'm a twin as well and find the whole 'twincest' porn thing incredibly disturbing. I can't imagine any of your friends seriously thinking that you might do that though. There are many dizygotic twins who are opposite sexes and straight and no-one accuses them of incest. Don't get worked up about it.

Not sure who would know about the twincest thing except other gay guys. Anybody brings it up ask them how they know about it and then congratulate them on their outing to you.

When you have a straight guy who has a straight sister there is no second thought. Yet two gay siblings and you have a minority of narrow-minded individuals that cannot fathom how they wouldn't be attracted to each other.

Its along a similar line to the ridiculous argument that allowing gay marriage would "cause fathers to marry their sons" (*cough*Jeremy Irons*cough*). I mean there is a worryingly large epidemic of mothers marrying sons and fathers marrying daughters due to the legalization of opposite-sex marriage isn't there? Oh wait, no there isn't. :icon_wink
