So today, my mother may cut my hair.

There is a 99.99% chance that she will not let me get the hair I want.

Here's the comebacks I have so far...

    Mom: That's men's hair.
    Me: No, it's my hair.

Mom: Short hair takes a lot of care.
Me: - looks at dad -

    Mom: People will tease you.
Me: They already tease me and I don't care lol

Mom: People will think you're a boy.
    Me: LOL

Mom: No girl has short hair.
Me: Mom, do you know who P!nk is

Feel free to make this into a thread where you post thinhs people may or have said, and what you may or have said in return.

Otherwise, help me combat my mom. Please. >>

Can you tell her that you have thought a lot about this and this is what you want ?
Presenting this in a mature way, calm and sincere...
People often pull a lot of arguments, brought up by their inner fears...
You might just stand and repeat that this is what you want and how you like it.
And you don't have to argue, just being sincere.

Just remain calm and imagine a happy ending for all involved

You should ask your mom if she knows who rihanna is, because she wears her hair short from time to time.plus people find her very attractive

The most mature way I can think of is:

"Mom, I would really like this haircut please."

But, more than the comebacks, the problem is actually asking. Whenever I say I want to cut my hair short, she gives me this look and tells me that if I cut it too short I would look like a crazy woman.

Short, to her, is probably this:

    Short, to me, is this:

I hate to be sassy and rude to her, as I can't actually sass and be intentionally rude, but I don't know how to break it to her that I really want my hair... short.

    As in... short.

My dad has short hair. I want that sort of short hair, but when I mention it, my mother gets this really horrified and appalled edge to her tone and I just automatically say no, when I mean yes. Long hair is apart of my dysphoria and I just don't know what to do, I guess. :frowning2:

Can you tell her that you that you spent a lot of time thinking and that is what you want?
Like: "Mom, I have given this a lot of thought and I really want to try it out."
Showing her a nice picture and saying its your style... and you just feel better this way.

Its like an emotional thing what to bring up in a conversation...
the girl in your picture above looks nice and trustworthy, and not flipped

But it sounds like you could talk to your mother if you really explain.

I'm afraid I would start crying if I actually explained. It happens every time I try, and you can imagine how embarrassing it is.

I will definitely try, though. Even if she's just going to say that I shouldn't think too much about it. It's like their mantra. "Don't think too much. You're too young." And, it's really, really true, but it's so hard not to.

    (*hug*) Sending you hugs...

Just relax.... maybe take one or two deep beaths...
    its not embarassing, its ok...
yes, just try to talk to her...
i'd say the girl in the photo is a really good example .
maybe you want to think a bit how much you'd like to explain, but just be happy in the meantime... enjoy your time and the weather

Is she doing the cutting? Couldn't you go to a salon and try to get what you want? She knows that hair grows back, right?

Thank you! My mother has surprised me yet again. She was a little bit apprehensive (and she said some stuff that made me go :dry:slight_smile:, but she eventually let me!

I didn't get the haircut I wanted, but... I got something pretty close. It's short, it's weird, but it's... good. I can't stop grinning.

She's doing the cutting. She did offer to go to a salon, but it's expensive, ESPECIALLY since I have really thick hair. Apparently.

But, yeah, I pointed that out and she told me it would take years. Well, yes, but I'm 100% sure I want this.

(and I got it. Sort of. uvu)

Okay, but yeah. I only had to use two or three of the comebacks I listed, but... YAY.

    ...

Sort of still embarrassed though. I look so different. :tears:

Okay, thank you for all your advice and comments, guys! I really appreciate it.
