A lot of people have been saying lately that gay people victimize themselves and whine about having no rights? Is this true?
No, I don't think so. Those people do not understand what it is like to have someone tell you that it is wrong for you to marry someone you love. And it isn't as if we don't have the same rights as everyone else, for the most part. It's sometimes harder for us to have those rights recognized though. It may be true that some people are like that, but for the most part I think it isn't true.
No, it's a totally absurd comment. In some countries you can be executed or jailed for being gay and even where things are more tolerable there are still huge barriers facing gay people. We have every reason and justification to "whine".
This seems like a poorly formed attempt at blaming the victim. Which is one of the neatest ways to justify oppression or injustice.
Perhaps gay people whine about not having rights because they... don't have rights. If discrimination didn't exist, gay people wouldn't have to raise hell. But until then, there is work to be done.
