You know how some frozen foods have cooking instructions for both the oven and the microwave? But how the oven method takes SO much longer and is more tedious?? Is there a benefit to using the oven instead of the microwave? Because if not, then why would they even put the oven instructions on there... lol

I guess this fits the "advice" part of this forum. Maybe I should've put this in Chit Chat...

Well one advantage of having instructions for regular ovens is that it gives an option for those who don't have a microwave. And yes, there are people like that out there...

Some though not much nutritional value of food is lost. Not really, apparently, anything to worry about overall. The actual ingredients should be of more concern. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I would think having a microwave would be a standard nowadays, and that it would actually be more of a need than an oven because there's so many frozen meals out there now... plus people out there that don't know how to cook lol (me)

Depends what it is. I like baking most things because the microwave can make things sort of rubbery.

Yeah, that's why I don't cook stuff for long in the microwave.

  14. I really enjoy everything about this thread. <3 LOL

I always pop it in the microwave. By the time I'm hungry and want to make food, I don't want to wait an hour for my food to be done. I wonder though...I might have to try the oven one day.

A real oven can give you a crisp texture that the microwave can't, for example on breaded fish or chicken items. If crispness is not a consideration, I almost always use the microwave as it is faster, more energy efficient, and doesn't heat up the room.

A toaster oven is great if you don't want to turn on the regular oven.

Meat, fish fingers, pizza - oven. It dries it and gives it a more "crispy" taste.
Lasagna, rice, salad - microwave. It leaves a more "soggy" feel to the food.

Depends on what end result you are after.

I like to cook my food most of the way in the microwave, them stick it in the oven for a few minutes to brown the top and keep it from being soggy. Unless I'm feeling lazy (most of the time) when I just cook it in the microwave.
