I'm a sophomore at my college but this is my first year living on campus and I really don't have any friends. I would like to meet people who I can relate to etc. so I've been wondering if I should hang out in the LGBTQ Resource Center. There is like a small "Lounge and Library" area there so I could probably sit down with a book and say hi to anyone that comes in, but I'm so nervous. :icon_sad: I'm so shy! I feel like hanging out there could be good for me though. Like, maybe I could make some friends?? I wish I was more confident in myself. Do you guys think I should go?

Yes, you should go ASAP. They will know you are nervous and try to make you as comfortable as possible. Having other LGBTQ friends will be very helpful because you won't have to worry about hiding such an integral part of your identity. That's not to say you should avoid straight friends; they will come along as well.

Yes! There is an OUTreach centre on my campus. I avoided going all last year because of nerves, but last month, I went for the first time and I regret not going sooner. I've met some wonderful people and have had great conversations, not all about LGBT+ issues, but also about other interests.

    Yes
You might have a cup of tea there... and bring a pack of cookies along.
You will have friends in no time
