I just received confirmation that the LGBT-Straight Alliance club I asked to start at my school is going to happen! Is there anything I need to know about having/running a GSA?

OMG, that's fantastic!!! My partner was one of the founders of GLSEN and was involved in the creation of many GSAs. It's an extremely courageous undertaking so you have my sincere admiration. As for advice, make sure everyone knows you exist. Getting the word out should always be your #1 goal. It's very helpful to get in touch with other GSAs from other schools in your area. If they don't exist, use your experience to help them form. If they do exist, try and set up monthly meetings of all of the GSAs and contact your local GLSEN if you need help with anything. Groups don't always have the same issues so networking is a great way to offer each other support. Our GSAs liked to plan inter-school activities. The favorites were prom, Halloween, and a Valentine's Day dance. I know it sounds like a lot of work but you won't be alone. Good luck, I'm really proud of your accomplishment!
