I met a guy online and we're meeting tomorrow for dinner and drinks. Last night I found out it's his birthday the night of our date (he'll be 23) and that made me a uneasy/nervous since there's some kind of entertainment factor to live up to and I'm petrified of being boring or awkward.

I'm not 100% sure it could be called a date since we're not "dating", we're friends who have somewhat of an interest in each other but we're taking it slow. This makes me worry about how to act about certain things.

So if you have any first date tips like breaking the ice, keeping a conversation going, what to do at first contact (etc.) I'd be grateful to hear them. Thank you!

Well, if you are interested in getting to know him, ask about his job or studies for a start. I don't know, if you've got things in common like music or hobbies, that would be also a good topic.
Don't be so nervous, just relax and enjoy. This is something you both are looking forward to, right?
    Relax...

Don't worry about it being his birthday. He already knew that when these arrangements were made. If you didn't learn from him then he obviously doesn't need a big deal made of it. Maybe just a card that says, "My other gift is a Maserati." Something light and jokey.
