So...how do you guys deal with a bad day, specifically a bad day at work? Like, the other day, I walked into work to start my shift (I'm a supervisor in a Starbucks) and the previous shift supervisor hadn't done a damn thing. Nothing was cleaned or stocked or anything. And nothing else would go right that day either, from closing with a barista who is helpless to the espresso machine breaking down to being super busy when we didn't have enough people. By the end of the day I was literally ready to cry or die. Or punch something or someone. Or go home and get incredibly drunk. Which is what I did. So, how can I cope better with less than stellar days?
I exercise. For me that's the best way to blow off some steam without the negative consequences of drinking or smoking or violence. It is rather time consuming but there isn't a time when I don't feel better afterwards.
I rewatch my favourite movies/TV shows/fashion shows at the end of a bad day. It takes my mind off things and works like magic. Do you have any hobbies? Find something that makes you happy no matter what or someone you can talk to anytime you want.
I will force myself to exercise when I get home. Jogging is a good way to make you feel better, well for me anyway. I also try to read a book. I get a bus from work so as soon as I sit down on the bus I will stop thinking about work and just read.
I agree with the above poster. Running relaxes me, especially if it's on a mild/warm summer evening. I usually go running along some quiet country lane and take in the scenery and enjoy the tranquility. Even just walking helps. Kinda wish it was summer now..
Understand that no matter how hard the day was, it is now over and you have managed to push through it, in the end making you a better stronger person. Try to look towards the future, do not live in the past.
Spoil yourself with a delicious meal (and desert). Do a bit of shopping (if you enjoy that kind of thing)...take a nice long bath and just soak your troubles away. Just force yourself to forget about your responsibilities, at least for the rest of the night, and dive into a book or movie or a TV series on netflix. Add some tasty food and let yourself get suckered away into another world.
