Hi, so this might be a stupid reason to start up a thread, but lately I've found myself getting slightly irked with the fact that most shows and/or commercials seem to solely portay two girls kissing/ fooling around to appeal to straight men. Like, the one thing that could be for the non-straight half of women still has to involve men, because it's not certified without the presence of a penis. I know I might be overreacting, but whenever I'm watching some cute and romantic lesbian storyline on youtube, most of the comments range from: " dude, I'm totally fapping right now" over " HOT!" to " That didn't even look real: they just pecked. I feel cheated!", the last one appearing on a vid about two 14 year olds. And then I just want to say: well duh, love isn't about slobbering over each other just to be considered hot to certain depraved guys.

I'm sorry if this seems rude, as I know there are a lot of decent guys out there, but I just... well, it's the media's fault I guess, for turning one's sexuality into a lusty activity for a non-involved sex, who'd mostly turn their heads in disgust, when they saw two girls kissing in real life.

I wholeheartedly agree- same thing happens with young girls on tumblr obsessing over gay men and writing pornographic fanfiction. Straight people (not all of them of course) keep fetishizing the queer community and it's getting really annoying.

Yup me too, and I especially hate when lesbian identified characters in shows end up sexing up the man. Sure some lesbians might have exceptions, but why does EVERY one of us need a man?

Thanks very much to the people who replied. I hope I haven't offended anyone, as I didn't mean to come across as some guy-hating crazy person, haha.

I just wanted to point out, that certain tv-shows go about the women-loving-women topic very lightly e.g.: portraying bisexual women as very promiscious( I think this is where a lot of the bi-phobia stems from, which, honestly bisexual people don't deserve. I believe they actually have it harder coming out.), having girls kiss each other for male attention, only turning girls gay after they've had a bad experience with men, having guys comment about how hot girl-on-girl is, all the time etc...

And then of course there's Orange Is The New Black. I LOVE the show, don't get me wrong, but come on, the main character is bisexual and they never even SAY the word bisexual.

I hate the way bi women are portrayed as bad girl, horny maniacs that constantly have three ways.

Women's sexualities will never be portrayed with any level of respect in the media as long as it's male-dominated. It bums me out as much as the next guy.

YouTube comments are just nasty in general. I wouldn't pay attention to them or view them as any sort of barometer of how people actually think, because mostly it's just jerks trolling each other endlessly.

As for TV, I think OITNB is pretty good with the way they portray lesbian and bi relationships. They even satirized the whole "lesbians are just for male gratification" thing with that creepy guard/counselor who throws Piper in isolation after she was caught "lesbianing" with Laura Prepon.

"She's a lesbian! They lesbianing together!" That was too funny the way Pensatucky said it

“She a lesbian. They lesbianing together!â€
