So I've been depressed for no apparent reason for a few months now, and I started a thread about it a few days ago. I got some very friendly advice from people which essentially boiled down to asking someone for help, so I asked my parents yesterday. They said it was natural for a boy my age and that it was just hormones, and that seeking medical or psychological help would be pointless. I don't think this is normal though. I haven't been enjoying anything, and I've really just been on this site every second I'm not in school for the past couple of weeks because I can't have fun and this is the only thing I can hold any sort of interest in. I've also not been feeling much of anything in terms of positive emotions, and even if I am kind of happy sometimes, it's just happiness on top of sadness and goes away very quickly. Every little thing has been upsetting me, often to the point of tears. On top of all that, I've had a pain in my stomach over this for months now, which once again they assure me is normal. I think my parents are just kinda ignoring it because I tend to be a massive drama queen over things like getting sick and what not, but I'm not this time. I'm out of ideas at this point, and I am very upset right now. Is there anything else I can do?

I'm sorry that your parents are brushing off your feelings. You may want to keep trying, with time they might see that you're serious. In the meantime, do you have access to counseling at school?

I think we have a counselor, I've never really asked for counseling at school though, so I'm not positive.

I'd definitely look into counseling at school if it's available. I also agree with Aspen about your parents, keep talking to them. They'll eventually realise that you're serious! Either way, I wish you the best of luck!

I guess I'll have to ask. Thanks again, and don't feel like what you said yesterday wasn't helpful or anything, I still really appreciate all support yesterday.

I'm so sorry, Platty. We'll be with you every step of the way. Update us!

These others set a few steps out. Keep talking to your parents, seek out a school counselor. If those don't work, we'll band together and think of something else for you! Ok?

Okay, so I talked to my counselor today and I have an appointment with him scheduled for tomorrow. He said that I can take as long as I want with him and we can keep the whole thing anonymous, so hopefully that can be at least some help.

Talked to my counselor today. I really don't feel like we accomplished much. I felt a little bit better just because I was able to talk to someone who would listen, but he wasn't really able to give me any advice outside of I should see a doctor, and I kinda went back to feeling the same by the end of the school day. He said I could come see him again if I needed to, but I'm not really sure how much help that will be. I guess I should just ask my parents again maybe?

Definitely talk to your parents again, you could perhaps even mention to them that you talked to the school counselor and that he suggested you see a doctor! That could actually convince them that you're serious!

I'm sorry that you didn't get much out of your session with the school counselor, that's a real bummer. :frowning2:

Yeah, I suppose I should mention that to them. It was nice to be able to talk with someone about it though, which I guess is part of the reason I keep posting on here. Hopefully my parents will listen, and if not I guess I could try again with the counselor.

School counselors usually have little resources to work with but they indeed try their best. You can always go back to talk to him any time, he's there to listen! Sometimes just having that one person to talk to makes a big difference.

Well it is certainly nice to get some of this off my chest, so I wouldn't mind talking to the counselor again, even if it doesn't do too much in the long run.

It looks like my post got deleted, so I'll say it again. My counselor called my mom a few days ago without me even asking, and she says she'll take me to the doctor now.
