Hi. I noticed that I tend to use my index finger to point at things a lot, and I was just wondering if people considered this rude. I don't want to offend anyone by doing so. Are there any other alternatives to pointing? What do you guys do?
i do the same as long as your not pointing at someone for a bad reason its totaly fine for me and everyone around me but who knows people are difrent
Using a pinky finger it's much more subtle. If a stranger sees you doing that they'll most likely be offended. Pinky fingers all the way dude. Sorry I'm drunk.
What I do, instead of pointing one finger I fist my hand and subtly motion to whatever you would be pointing at
It's not rude unless you're pointing at someone in a bad manner. An alternative would be tilting your head towards whatever you're pointing at.
I nudge with my head pointing to the general direction of the thing I pointing to. And I try to be more descriptive of what I'm trying to point at, thus eliminating the use of pointing with my hands in order to be more specific.
I personally don't consider it rude, but just to be safe I just wave my hand in the direction of where I want the other person to look.
