    They would have to be totally submissive, and I would find that singularly unattractive. I like someone who will give me a hard time, talk back, has a mind of their own.

    I agree wholeheartedly. I wouldn't want an extension of myself or to be an extension of someone else. It's the differences between people that make them interesting, which is part of why, I suppose, I tend to flirt by teasing through playful disagreement or even friendly mocking. And I like it when those things are mutual. I think it's an important indicator of capacity for not taking oneself too seriously.

    Besides, total submission would be terribly destructive to open and honest communication.

    It's like that song by Alanis: "I don't want to be your other half; I believe that one and one make two."
