Should I tell my mum I'm going on a date?

    I think he's going to come to my city, and we'll go out for a meal.
    This will be our 4th date.

    I'm 17 at highschool. He's 19, first year of university.

    I told my mum a few months back that I don't like girls but she said it's "just a phase"

    I'm pretty mature for my age, so I don't see the age gap too much.

    How would I tell her?

    First can I just be all old person about this and say you definitely should tell someone about it. I know you've met before but it's pretty risky going on dates and not letting someone know where you're going and when to expect you back.
    It doesn't sound like your mum is necessarily going to freak out if you tell her and it will only reinforce her opinion if you do this all on secret.
    Is there a specific reason that you don't want to tell her?
