I am away at college so I can't go home to vote! However, I applied for an absentee ballot and was notified that it had been sent to me in the mail. 4 days later and still no ballot! This is the first election I can vote in and I think it will be the most important. I want to do my part and be a voice for my generation. I'm afraid that if the ballot doesn't come today then I won't be able to vote at all. I will feel so guilty if Trump wins. :bang:
Considering the day you're posting this is Sunday, unless they make exceptions for government paperwork, you're getting it on the 7th at the earliest. Roughly how long does it take for you to get to college from your hometown?
I got my ballot a little over a month after I sent in the application. You need to send it in much earlier next election. If you want to vote in this election, you need to find some way to get back to your hometown for election day.
It depends on what state you're in. In some states, Oregon is one of them I think, absentee ballots are valid and will be counted as long as they're *postmarked* by election day. Other states, like my home state of Michigan, will not accept an absentee ballot unless it was received by 8 PM on election day. If you can find a way to get home to vote, you'll probably have to take your absentee ballot with you, or they may have you vote a provisional ballot, meaning that it won't count until they confirm that you never sent in the absentee ballot you requested.
I know I vote via absentee ballot and the last Presidential vote...I did not receive my ballot and there was a phone number that you can contact to state your problem and they sent it out to me right away. I'm not sure if that will work where you live but it won't hurt to try.
If your only concern is Trump winning, I wouldn't worry about it. Although he might win your home state (unless it's Illinois) he's NOT going to win the national electoral vote.
I know he won't win Illinois, I just really wanted to vote because it's the first time I can and it's such a historic election.
I've moved this over to General Support and Advice, as this wasn't news per-se and you might get some better advice there.
I completely understand. I was mainly responding to what you said in the OP about feeling guilty if Trump wins.
