I think you should figure out if he has a girl first, so that'll be clear. Does he know you are gay? Cause maybe he'll be more open to you if he knows. If he knows and he is gay too, he might come up to you and say it himself. I hope this helped. Keep us updated!

Hey faceup, If you're completely closeted, it's going to be a challenge to find out if he might be gay or bi. What type of ring does he wear on his middle finger? Some rings worn like that are specific symbols. For example - and I have no idea if it even applies here -I read somewhere that a black ring (usually hematite) on the middle finger of the right hand is a universal, but not well-known, symbol of asexuality.
He could be polyamorous, in an open relationship, or bisexual (as far as 'having a ring', 'doesn't trigger gaydar', and 'might still be interested' go). People always forget that those are options. If you're too afraid to ask, don't ask; if you're willing to ask, ask, with discretion. Something like 'Have any plans with that girlfriend of yours?' might work for having plausible deniability.
I am in Vancouver Canada, the city here is very gay friendly. No one ever asked me about sexual orientation. Next week his band is going to play in a venue and I might go there. I will try to ask him about girlfriend or something like that. He asked me what kind of music a like and I told him that I like Madonna,Disco and also heavy metal. When I said Madonna and disco he smiled. I will post here again as soon as I have more information.
