As I have stated before, I don't have that good of relationship with my mom but I'm afraid to tell my dad about anything. As I look in the mirror, I see a somewhat feminine figure in my eyes and I want it to stay that way (if not become better). I don't know how to tell my mom that I want hormones and blockers and I'm afraid of her reaction. Now, on to why I originally wanted to make this post, how do you find a good doctor? I've heard that the best way is through a gender specializing individual that will refer you. Is that true? Any and all tips or advice are welcome!

That depends on many things. Where do you live? Are you above the age of medical consent? Are you able to get to places without the aid of your parents?

I don't know the exact procedure for getting a referral in your area, unless you're in the UK, but it generally consists of getting a referral to a specialist from a general doctor, or from a therapist.

If you're independent enough to get to appointments, if they are free, and if you are capable of legally consenting to them, you can avoid telling your mother for the time being.

If you do require assistance, be it financial or transport related, then you will have to tell her. This is, uh, difficult. First, ensure you are safe, and not at risk of being kicked out, and then I might suggest you write a letter or something. Explain what transgender is, say you still love her, that you're still the same person, and explain some of your personal feelings, and past experiences that mean that transition is the right path for you.

Yeah, she pretty much said that I can leave at 18 and be out of her life if I liked guys. I don't think she'll be very supportive about her "boy" wanting to be a girl. I live in Texas (US) and at this time I don't have a license. I will look up the age of medical consent in my state so thanks for that info. I don't think I really have a choice though, I think I might have to tell her (she checks my room:dry:slight_smile:. Also, the letter thing sounds like a good idea. I think I'll type something up.

Looked it up and the lowest is 16 but you have to be living apart from your parents. So, I'd have to wait until 18.
