I've been talking to a friend, who suggested I see a counselor, and I was looking and my university has free counseling for the following Obviously, I have several of those issues. Has anyone else had any luck with counseling/did it help? Would you recommend it?
Well, I haven't had any counseling but I've found that being able to actually talk about something thats bothering me makes me feel better. What's there to loose? You might want to at least try it right?
I guess I'd give it a try. Or maybe more than one try (you might "click" better one person on staff vs another). What's there to lose? You sure can't beat the price!
I second SpitfireXSoarin's statement. (Though I did briefly see a doc.) This whole site is counseling, and it had helped, right? It's just going to be more personal and one-on-one. Good luck with your decision!
This whole site is counseling. And I'm amazed at how much it's done for me the last month, and not just with dealing with sexual orientation issues. I just hope that maybe I've been a slight help to others here.
Counseling is always a good idea, I'd highly recommend it. If you don't like it, you don't have to go back.
As someone who took advantage of counseling when I was in college, I would highly recommend it to any college student who is struggling personally and/or academically. So glad that many if not most universities offer these services for their students.
Just to be clear, what EC does is peer advising, not counseling. One can be done by anyone, the other requires degrees and licensure. Peer advising can look a lot like counseling, but we just gotta make sure we're clear on what we offer so as not to run afoul of any regulatory rules.
I have had many counsellors that I have seen throughout my life, and I still seek counselling even now; when I really require it. I would absolutely recommend it, and YES...it has helped me significantly, and I have applied everything that I have learnt from counselling in my personal life, and have reaped the rewards and results from ALL the advice I received.
I highly recommend it as well. My therapist (in private practice, not at a university) has been incredibly helpful. I just wish the price were as good as yours! (OK, so my health insurance is good and it costs me $15/session - not bad, but could do better!)
I could afford it at $15 a session in private practice, but I can't afford $60 or $100. Free is definitely better.
Um...counseling not so much, but does therapy count? I'v had some really bad therapists but then I finally found a really good one. Am still with her and I can honestly say she is one of the big reasons I am still alive today and don't have any more thoughts on suicide, I even feel somewhat content, sometimes even happy so yes - therapy - with the right kind of therapist is really great.
