I'm an FtM that recently came out as trans to my family. I've cut my hair (HUGE confidence boost!!) but I'm looking for a name for myself and need suggestions. I dont plan on using my name until graduating high school, but I want something to be able to call myself even if it's only in my head for now.. I definitely want something unique and NOT unisex, masculine for sure. Suggestions, anyone?
Don't people usually kind of play with their own name a bit and come up with the gender alternative? Alex -> Alexis, etc., or David -> Denise? I'm not too sure how it goes, but I've always thought Felix is a badass name. Rofl. Idk - when/if you respond with some info/more instructions, I'll contribute some more.
I'm not sure what you'd like, so I'll just throw out a few suggestions (ones that I like I guess? ): Vincent Claude Armando Dante Emilio Lucio Marcello Alaric Alphonse Btw, are you restricting only to English names?
There are a lot of names out there, and I personally find the majority of them to be perfectly nice names, so I wouldn't even know where to begin suggesting them. See if you can find a quality to narrow down the options. Do you want to keep your initials, have a name with a similar sound to your own, honor a family tradition/your parents wishes? In America, people "white" sounding names (that is, names that aren't obviously ethnic) are more likely to find jobs, so that's something to keep in mind, but is there any particular origin you want your name to come from? Do you want your name to be common so that you don't attract attention or uncommon so that you stand out? If none of those apply and you can't think of any other limiting factors, I suggest going to a baby names website and browsing through names until you find one you think suits you.
victor is a good one, since it´s about being victorious, right? Adam is as masculin as you can get it Steve is common, simple but strong.
I like Vincent, Victor, or Byron. Try to choose a masculine name that really fits with who you are. Victor's to me have to be somewhat dark, to the point of being almost supernatural...get what I mean?
I like Vincent. Shane is probably my favourite name(I got it from the L world). Also Sebastian Esteban. Byron sounds good too. (I guess I have a thing for dark weird names) My girlfriend likes edward and daniel. ---------- Post added 17th Jun 2013 at 04:10 AM ---------- We got some common tastes!yay!! (!) xD For some reason my brain thinks Dante must be a very sexy name to women. ;p dunno why
Look up a list of male names from your birth year, and choose one you a) like b) feel comfortable using c) others will feel comfortable using (to some extend, even though its your name, its everyone else who will use it. d) others won't feel suspicious of. Its a common occurrence for trans people to choose awesome but extremely rare names, and find that people guess they changed their names. e) if you're having trouble narrowing it down, try looking at name meanings. I chose Alexander in the end because it means "Defender of humanity" which I like a lot If you're looking to have a name that blends in, try looking at names or variations of names that are common in your area, or to your ethnicity. Also, be aware of any naming conventions in your family. For instance, all the men in my family have the same middle name, so I also took it as my middle name. (I HATE my middle name. But most people do.)
Always loved the names Nathan, Adrian, Michael, Gabriel, David, Quinn, Anthony. Mostly those are the names I give fictional characters in the stories I write, lol! Nathan/Michael are my faves. If I was a guy, I`d pick one of those names. They are nice and simple, yet elegant. But we`ve all got different tastes, you`ll find a name that is perfect for you Any book or movie character names you adore? Finding something that reflects your personality a bit could be nice. And if it starts with the same letter as the name you were given it could be easier for people to switch once you start using your new name. Ben is a nice name, as well as Benjamin, Blaine, Blake, Bryan. Lots of choices
I recommend doing what Hexagon and others said. I chose my name (Alexander Jerick) from my personal heroes. Maybe that will help you figure things out.
I basically used the masculine version of my birth name so it was simple. If I hadn't liked the masculine version of my name, I probably would have went with the name of a person I admire or a name that I actually liked the sound of. At one point I was seriously considering Julian, Adrian (which is my middle name now) or Alex, but it seems as if a lot of transguys go by Alex(ander). Experiment with names, find one that you're comfortable with. You'll have to like it for the rest of your life, so I'd say look towards the future a bit and consider a name that you'll still be comfortable with at say, age 30, 40, ect. I'm going to be an old dude named Shane when the time comes, and I'm looking forward to it.
