Default Do you put on weight by drinking nothing but squash during the day (+ meals))

Was just wondering is it likely for a person to put on weight if they continously drink juices of squash throughtout the day. So, I would eat breakfast, and eat nothing until round 5ish, and then eat later at 8.
So am I likely to put on weight if I drink the squash but eat no snacks throughout the day. I wondered because squash is generally sugary, so wouldnt that create fat in the gut?

Just something I read and wasnt too sure if it was true.
Thanks for all your comments

Check the nutritional content. Its usually on the side of the bottle somewhere. If there are no kcals, or something like no more that 10 kcal/100ml of drink, then you won't put on weight. But be careful because if you dont eat your body starts storing fat so once you do eat, your body will store it all as fat and decrease your metabolism to do so.

Correct- if you are consuming a diet carbs and not eating anough calories, your body will begin retaining water and conserving energy. Since fat cells are >95%, this will make it appear that you're getting fat when in fact, you're largely retaining water.

You would be better off eating a more balanced diet and exercising if you're trying to trim down.

Is there any way to discourage/prevent water retention? (In general that is, not just in the case of a diet like this)

There are good and reasonably nutritious diets that emphasize balance and portion control combined with exercise. Weight Watchers is probably the most well-known. Nutrisystem and South Beach and some others are variations on the same reduced carb, portion controlled diet.

The problem with dieting- and the part that doesn't get really addressed- is that because our bodies are largely water, "dieting" is really just playing with water balance on the short term. That's why people yo-yo so much on these diets.

On the other hand, if you're in a plan that offers a reasonable number of calories and has you exercising daily, your body does begin to stop storing fat and begins to use the fat that has been stored previously.

How can you tell the difference? If it's a diet that has you eating something unusual (e.g. carrot juice, grapefruit juice and pepper, etc) or doing a "cleanse" with the expectation that you're going to lose the weight in days, then it's just a diet that is dehydrating your body. The minute you start eating normally, you'll regain all the water again.

On the other hand, if it's a diet that has a meal plan that looks like a real meal- balanced vegetables, protein, etc in reasonable portions and they're telling you to exercise and it's covering weeks/months, then it's more likely to be a diet that will make permanent changes to you body instead of just affecting the amount of water that you're retaining.

So instead of drinking squash, do you reckon its a safer bet to just drink water throughout the day and have reasonably small meals at the times I do eat. So, a small lunch at 5 and then eat something in the evening at 8, but drinking water continuously.
I dont get much time to eat much during the day, so I think if I drink around 2 litres of water everyday and eat fruit during the times I do eat- does anyone agree this is a good way of trimming down for me?

KaraBalut: I would still be keeping fit by exercising in the evening, but just limiting to how much I eat during the day. (:

I typically eat 5 meals a day. They are small, and I've found that by eating more often is it easier to eat less. Because I am not very hungry when I eat, so it is easier to stop eating.

The meals can be something simple. Sometimes a meal will just be a bagel, or a protein bar, or a can of tuna with some crackers. My favorite quick meal is a banana with bee jerky. Another quick thing is popcorn.

The problem with not eating during the day is you become very hungry, make a bad decision and then eat too much of a bad thing.
