Default Ian's Introduction

Hello, everyone. I'm Ian, a fifteen-year old aromantic asexual transguy.

I discovered the term asexual this past summer. I think I saw some post on tumblr mentioning it. I immediately realized that's what I had always been, and it was so relieving to find other people out there like me. After realizing that what I want in life is a platonic partnership (Sherlock Holmes and John Watson is the example I like to use), I began identifying as aromantic.

Realizing I'm FTM was a bit more difficult. I have always identified more with boys, worn boys' clothing, had more masculine interests, had top dysphoria, hated anything feminine, etc. I've been trying out different labels to help me figure out my gender identity, and I think male suits me best. I had tried genderqueer and agender and stuff like that, but when I finally looked at myself in the mirror and said, "I'm a boy," it felt so natural, and I think I knew it was what I'd always wanted to be. I've looked at different names for myself over the past few months, but after finding Ian, it just completely clicked. It makes me feel like a whole new person, and I really like it. I've been much more depressed, anxious, and upset than normal over the past few months, but I'm glad I'm finally figuring out myself.

I am out as asexual to my parents and three or four friends. Both parents know I am trans*-identified but don't know I'm FTM. I've recently come out in an email to my gender therapist, but I haven't seen him since then.

Anyway, other than gender/sexuality stuff, I like Sherlock, Doctor Who, Shakespeare, cello, mystery novels, and Gothic horror novels, among other things.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to getting to know you guys!

Ian

What did you think of the new Brit Holmes series set in modern day?

And what's your opinion of Irene Adler?

Oh god...don't get me started on fanboying like crazy about Sherlock . I think it's absolutely fantastic, and it's definitely my favorite TV show on air now. The last episode of the second series just aired yesterday, and I'm already so excited for the third one. The acting and writing are excellent.

As for Irene Adler, I have mixed feelings. I liked her a lot in the book, but I don't like that some movie/TV adaptations portray her as a love interest. I think of Holmes as an aromantic asexual (and he's basically the only fictional character I relate to from a romantic/sexual perspective), so I'd like to keep it that way. I thought the BBC one kind of showed both sides of the debate but stuck with Holmes as asexual, so I liked that, and Lara Pulver's acting was fantastic.

Hey, welcome to EC. Sherlock and Doctor Who are awesome. I'm FTM too. And kind of asexual. But not always. We appear to have much in common
