I was looking for news on the domestic partnership case in Wisconsin and came across this article of such a sweet couple. They've been together for 52 years and recently got married in Vermont since Wisconsin has a marriage equality ban. I'm always amazed and so happy for these lucky and brave souls who found someone special and stayed together against all odds. Love's long journey: 52 years together; now, a wedding : Wsj
My 12-year-old daughter (who I am not out to yet) was watching TV and saw a piece on same-sex marriage in another state. She got a rather disgusted look on her face and I held my breath for a minute....then she said, "So why don't we have that in Wisconsin, anyhow? Why don't we wise up here and make it legal?" It was nice to hear.
For all her many neuroses and baggage and perpetual dissatisfaction with everything around her, I will say that my wife and I were always on the same page where LGBT rights were concerned. (Even before she knew she was married to one.) We ran into a lesbian couple I knew from work at the state fair some years ago, and one of the girls asked afterwards, "Are they a couple?" When I said yes, she replied "I thought so. Can we see the horses now?" No big deal whatsoever. As it should be.
