I've heard the figures: gay men 4% / lesbian 3% / bisexual - about 2 to 3% for men and women. At the most, that would make for men who are capable of MSM up to about 7%, and women who are capable of having sex with women up to about 6%. Sounds plausible. I'm not one of those people with the "oops, need to get those numbers up" attitude. It is what it is. The map is awesome, though. It supports a lot of what people think about the U.S. For one, I am surprised that the Pacific region is not shaded the same way as the Northeast and New England.
Hi, Numbers are pointless... There are gays and those gays that label themselves bisexual so deeply in denial they marry woman, Do you think a gay so deep in denial they lie to themselves and their wife is going to answer a survey honestly? They would avoid such a survey like a rabbit runs from a coyote. Don't believe numbers for a second. Some countries claim zero gays, yeah right. Numbers pointless when denial runs this deep. Even open gays, open all their lives will warn you that you need to be careful and observant where you let your gay out or you could be harmed. I have a lawyer friend who does not reveal his being gay for fear of loss of clients. Otherwise he is out except for social media which could financially harm him. You will need a few generations of zero bigotry before the numbers mean anything. Take it back one step... Almost all bonobos are believed to be bisexual. Bonobos are closest DNA ape match to humans.
