    Chag Pesach Sameach!

Not sure how mine is going to be this year since I'm parked in the hospital with my fiance. He decided being sick isn't enough, he had to have a 105 fever to go with it. >_>

    Thankyou!

Well of course! Illness has a way of striking with exquisite timing! A Refuah Shelema to your fiancée!

If you use the Croydon House matzah mix for the matzah-ball soup as breadcrumbs, I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. I use it to make a chicken breast schnitzel to die for!

    Likewise to you, great whale!

Do you follow all the dietary rules of Passover, separate dishes, yadda, yadda, yadda?

No way, there's no better schnitzel than that made with [dairy] italian-flavored breadcrumbs (clearly, I'm not Jewish, but hey, I try!).

Lol I just can't resist buying cases of matzoh and throwing them in the food processor, it may not make flavored breadcrumbs, but they sure are cheap!!!

Well, I am Jewish, and I never thought to use matzoh for breadcrumbs! Maybe seasoned matzoh would work better, or tossing in some dried herbs?

I may try it this week--the only week I can easily get matzoh in this very white-bread Christian town (93% white, 95% Christian--14,000 people and close to 40 churches). Oy Vey!

Seasoned matzoh? Hmmm, never saw that... I just buy the one that has a picture of Jerusalem on the box (yeah, I know, they all do), and that goes on sale 5 boxes/$2 about this time of year. It works great for whenever you need plain breadcrumbs (meatloaf, meatballs, etc). I'm not sure where I got the idea from, but it sure as heck is cheaper than breadcrumbs, and doesn't have a million chemicals added to it.

Not exactly...well not at all these days! except no bread and using only Kosher for Passover products.

I wish I could, but it is just too cost-prohibitive, what with the divorce and all. My dream home someday will have a separate kitchen just for Passover (my neighbours had one). Can you imagine an entire kitchen, stove, fridge, cabinets etc. to be used for exactly 8 days in any given year!?

I'll be having both Seders with friends, God bless them!

And KyleD; Passover is a holiday to celebrate freedom! So why not! If you're free it's something to celebrate, Jewish or not!

I also think that perhaps we can learn things from religious traditions other than our own.

Thurs. I'll be applying this concept in my own life, as I attend a Seder at a local church. Apparently, a certain last meal 2,000 years ago was a Seder.... I'm told it will be authentic. I think they even have someone who knows Hebrew who'll be doing some readings or something.

I only speak for myself here... Other disclaimer: I know very little about Judaism.

But for me (and again I speak only for me), I think some rites may not be necessary in the sense of meeting some hard core requirement of God's. They are more important for other reasons, such as teaching us lessons, or connecting us to a spiritual community.

This topic of conversation, in fact, came up at a local ELCA church event last week. The pastor was talking about baptism, which is one of the 2 sacraments that survive from the Catholics. But, deep down, she feels it's about us and community than fulfilling some law.

I talked afterwards with one woman who brought the topic up. She has a teenager who has never been baptized, and has no interest in being baptized now. I am surprised there is difficulty; don't teenagers always do exactly what Mom wants. But I told her (the mother), I'd listen to what the pastor said. I personally don't believe God is standing up there with a clipboard, checking names off as people are baptized.

Of course, there would be people violently disagreeing with both me and the pastor...

    ! חג שמח

A separate Pesach kitchen? REALLY? I don't even discard all of the "chametz" from my apartment; I just keep it in a separate cabinet.

I'm happy enough that I finally have a dishwasher. A separate kitchen for eight days of the year is--ummm--perhaps not my style.

:roflmao: well, at least two dishwashers (one for meat and the other for dairy, of course)...
