Hi EC buddies. Over the last few months I've been chatting (web and phone) with a guy and we are going to spend a week together at the beach. I know stranger danger is probably on your mind. To be honest it occurred to me as well. I've done all that I know to do (google search etc.) and have found him to be truthful. He's a well grounded guy with teen aged child, well know in the community etc. and we'll be spending our time in a nice hotel which is a very public venue. Here's my thoughts... Screw it, I'm 58 isn't about time I try out my new wings, I've lived my whole life majorly overly cautious and I AM DONE WITH THAT, I WANT TO LIVE! Any suggestions as to make the best impression IRL for the first time meeting. For the first time in a long time I'm actually happy. (!)
Well, first off, congratulations! I'm bad at first time meetings, but I think the best thing is to just be yourself. Try not to have awkward silences, though. Think about what things you want to talk about, but not what you will say. Doing that may make you feel anxious or flustered. Good luck, stay safe, and have fun!
Listen and be attentive. Show a genuine interest in what he has to say and ask questions? He'll appreciate it and hopefully will reciprocate.. that should keep the conversation running along. If you can inject a bit of fun and laughter into it, even better. Other than that, just be yourself and smile just like you are doing on your avatar photo. Re. the stranger danger thing.. will anyone else know your whereabouts? Will you be keeping contact with someone by text? You don't have to tell them all the details. Could you even pop onto EC quickly, cos we care too? Anyway, I hope it's a nice week for you and all goes well and you come back even happier.
Just be yourself, everyone else is already taken. That way he will meet the real you, and he will either hit it off with you or not, which is what will take both of you down the correct path.

Hi EC buddies, I am alive and well and thanks for your advice and well wishes. I had the most fantastic time in my life, was myself and he liked that and we definitely will be friends for life! Whether we will go on as lovers it's very hard to say. Ten hours one way is a bit much, our sexting is great but as you know that can get old quick. We do talk about other real life things and enjoy that too. Overall a good match. Because I really care for him I want him to find the one... as the old saying goes... absence makes the heart grow fonder... for someone else. In other words I'm trying to stay realistic. But we both agree there is something there... we just don't what it is quite yet. But I'm ready to go back when funds allow.
Someone else said it, "just be yourself', yes I think that's good advice. You don't need to 'do' anything special to make a good impression, just be natural, try to relax, and go in without any expectations - just be present with whatever is happening, and enjoy his company.
