Well it's official, because science.... Science Shows Something Surprising About People Who Love to Write - Mic
Thanks for the link. It makes all the sense in the world. I have often felt this way about writing and when writing. It's a very creative outlet and it's cathartic. I think that enjoying reading various things and being a bookworm off and on, possibly as a refuge of sorts, has stimulated me to write and seek to improve my writing skills in the process.
I honestly think writing saved my life this year. Just being able to get my thoughts and feelings out and figure out what it is I want in life helped me survive and start to get back on my feet.
I think EC contains several novels worth of excellent thoughtful and insightful writing. Good to know contributing here is not just therapeutic, but healthy.
I would love to write more, but the fact that I can't count on my wife not reading things, I hesitate to write of questioning my sexual identity. Perhaps it is time to dust off the foreign language skills.... Drawing seems to help too, at least in my own personal experience. After being in Afghanistan, drawing certain bothersome images was a way to transfer them from the mind to a page. They became less of a problem, less intrusive that way.
One thing that you can do is write in a word processor and delete what you have written after you finish. Or you could encrypt the file with PGP. I also draw a lot and it does help.
I'm writing a graphic novel about gay colonists on the moon doubt it'll go anywhere, but it's fun to do! ^_^
