No one wants to be alone, and sometimes it almost seems better to stay with someone who is wrong for you than to venture out on your own to find something else. You used the past tense in your post, so hopefully that means you have moved on. Keep on keeping on. I hope you find the right one for you soon.

Chicago is a big place - I used to live there. If you have any religious affiliations, my only advice at this time is to get involved there, not necessarily to find a mate - just getting out there - it could very well relieve the anxiety you may be experiencing which will help in attracting someone right for you. Don't wait for destiny - make your own.
I'd rather remain alone than be used by someone. So while you have my empathy, I think you are now better off. (*hug*)
Just a while back, the same thing happened to me and it hurt a lot because when someone uses you or dates you cause of some sick joke, then they dump you and you find out behind the scenes, it hurts. I feel your pain, my friend.
