    There is a beautiful, old-world quality to the way Andrew Solomon writes, and this article, on his experience as a gay dad raising children with his husband is no less a beautiful exposé on the issues surrounding this "Modern Family". Well worth reading, if only for the language.

    Coincidentally, I heard him yesterday during an interview on NPR, talking about his struggle with depression and the books he wrote about it, what is extraordinary is that he speaks as he writes, with clarity and precision.

    I agree, it is wonderfully written. I like his explanation of coming out - more a process than an event for many of us - as seeping out like a spreading wine stain.

    I'm still so unsure of what is going on with me: women, men, both? But the way he describes his realization, not unlike other stories I've heard, is just all too familiar.

    And that seeping wine stain metaphor...gold.
