I'm actually kind of proud of this: I bought my first LGBT stuff today! I bought a watch and a keychain from HRC. I mean, it's subtle, but to me, it's my first way to show people that I support gay rights. If they think I'm gay because of it, I won't argue with them. I think having these will also be a tangible way for me to cut ties with my past, with the fear and all that, especially since even a few months ago there would have been no way I'd go out and support a LGBT-rights organization. I still have low points, but I really feel like I've come a long way. (!) Overnight shipping was a little too expensive for me, but I still can't wait for them to arrive!
Reminds of the first time I went into a gay "Toy" store; what an adrenaline rush that was! Congrats! ---------- Post added 10th Oct 2015 at 05:24 AM ---------- .....and hold your comments to yourself Siennafire!
It's a neat feeling acquiring something with LGBT logo on it. Do you have any pictures of your watch and keychain? I'm curious to see what those look like. Are you planning on using these accessories to drop hints before you come out? I rather enjoy wearing my LGBT bracelet. I wear it almost every day and almost everywhere. I've gotten a few interesting comments while wearing it, and even been hit on a few times, which is always appreciated
There's nothing crazy about these; a basic watch and a metal keychain, but with the Human Rights Campaign equal sign logo. No rainbows. Really, I think it's more for my own benefit, knowing that I'm starting to show my pro-gay rights stand openly, not just to a couple of people. But I'm curious about how I'll respond if/when someone comments on my nice new watch... I'll say thank you, but what if someone says, what's that equal sign for? I imagine not many people around here will have seen it before! I suspect that to them, anyone who supports gay rights will be presumed gay until proven otherwise. I guess I just won't try to prove them otherwise.
I just got my first pride bracelet yesterday and wore to work yesterday and wearing it today. I've already been practicing responses in my head if someone makes an offhand comment. My fave so far being if someone tells me how I'm going to hell, I am just gonna tell em "Thats good, I hate cold weather anyway."
Nice job! Those sound tasteful and nice. (Not that tacky is bad; I quite like tacky sometimes, but for everyday wear subtle might be more appropriate.) I really want something tangible to show my cross over to the queer side. I ordered some gay shirts but they got lost in the mail. Somewhere out there whoever got them knows I'm queer lol.
Did anyone even notice you were wearing it? I ask because I can imagine most of my coworkers not having a clue.
I'm not sure. But then since nobody assaulted me for my wicked homo way, I kinda figure that's a good thing too.
I have about a hundred rainbow bracelets from the last two pride events I went to. As well as an HRC flag, stickers (one is proudly displayed on my laptop), and keychains. I've gotten weird looks every once in a while. But who cares?
Aw, that's awesome! Congrats on getting more and more comfortable with yourself! (*hug*) I need to get a nice rainbow bracelet - I used to wear one (that I made myself), but I need something that looks more like a 'real' bracelet, not just a string with 6 beads (which was the one I used to wear). They don't sell any rainbow/pride stuff over here, so I need to purchase online.
