I mean, of course, it wasn't the first conversation I've ever had, but it sure felt like it. I had the first (virtual) conversation about my being gay, about what it's like to be gay where I am, and I had it with my best friend. It felt good to talk about things I've kept secret since I was 11, feelings I've never dared speak about. It felt good to get things out there. And he was accepting, "harmless" he said. I need to hold onto people like that.

Congrats, man! You must feel so relieved now that you've shared your secret with your friend and that person has been accepting. I'm so glad for you.

Congrats! My only advice is to manage your expectations from here, there will be some bumps in the road, but power on and be true to yourself because it will pay off, I know it will.

It's always a nice surprise when we can finally open up to a friend about this scary thing and they're just like "no big deal, I still love you." And anybody who doesn't react that way doesn't deserve to be in your life anyway! Happy for you.

To clarify, I had already told him that I'm gay, but his reaction was great at the time ("Okay, glad you're out!"). But to actually talk about it in more depth was new and exciting. I mean, not totally in depth; I'm sure it's got to be unfamiliar or uncomfortable for straight people to really hear about same-sex relationships. But it was still a step in the right direction.

Wow! That's so wonderful. To come out is one thing, and from then onward to be able to be oneself, without having to be "discrete" or "careful", without hiding... The more you do it, the more natural you realize it is... I can imagine it must be the best feeling. Way to go!

That's wonderful! It's so great to have good friends to talk to and confide in. And how great is it to be able to come out and be yourself! Happy for you!
