I was in a small restaurant having lunch and the Chew was on. I wasn't really paying attention then I hear the two guys at the table next to me going back and forth. Guy one :it's a choice " in a sarcastic way. Guy two it's not normal. They continue back and forth. Then guy two says of course he's Gay, he's on the Chew My blood is boiling. A dear friend owns the restaurant, he's not there at the moment. On my way out the door I lean into there table and say "you know what's worse than being Gay, is being a homophobic asshole". They looked at me like holy shit. They wanted to engage at that moment, respecting my friends restaurant I just left. I was outside telling the owner who had just got there as I was leaving when the walked out and said have a good day. I felt good. Just had to share.
Good on you for standing up to them. That's hard for many people, but it's the only way things are going to change. No safe place for homophobia.
Awesome! I did something similar in a bar with a coworker who was an ass. I kissed him on the cheek after an hour of homophobia talk. He exploded and made a fool of himself in a crowded room. I was hiding me being bi big time then but got a thank you from a gay man I won't forget.
Just an update to the story, saw my friend that owns the restaurant. He asked what happened. I told him that if it wasn't for the fact it was his place I would have been a lot more animated. What was great he said "Fuck them, I'll throw them out. I don't want that type of customer." #peopleareawesome
