Guys - I'm completely out of the closet!!

I came out to my Dad yesterday. And he was so supportive. He was concerned about my happiness, asked if I'd ever explored it, asked about my marriage, generally asked lots of questions and listened. At the end he told me he was proud of me. and he kept saying he just wants me to be happy.

We talked about why i was in the closet so long, we talked about my abuse when I was little. I cried a little, we hugged. He told me he loves me, and he spent a lot of time trying to figure out whether he handled the abuse the right way.

And then we got back to normal conversations, lady gaga, baseball, thanks Obama (political argument), etc.

He gave me full support and love. I'm so lucky.

    Thanks!

I told him I've been trying to figure out whether I'm gay or bisexual . I was really honest with my Dad, just started talking and it all just started feeling natural.

This was actually my first time coming out to someone in person now that I think about it. Because I was so far away the other conversations with my siblings and mom happened over email (with follow up phone calls), text and email to my 2 best friends for the same reason...

I didn't know what it would be like to have this conversation in person, so the words just came tumbling out.

OTH - I wanted to edit and add to my response but I wasn't quick enough:

I should note as an addendum to this -
I told him I've been trying to figure out whether I'm gay or bisexual

    - I said as well something to the effect of knowing it's somewhere in that range, and that this has become an important part of my identity that I'm starting to acknowledge. I also told him I've had feelings for girls since I was quite little and that I considered coming out when I was in my early 20s. I think I gave him as full of an understanding as I could.

    ---------- Post added 27th Apr 2016 at 05:10 AM ----------

    Thank you!!

I would imagine his positive reaction will be a massive springboard for you! Keep it up and keep checking off that to do list.

:icon_bigg yes, I'm feeling really positive right now. And in fact I was thinking about updating my action plan thread. I have lots of little updates for it, and it would be nice to see my progress in one place.

Now on to continuing to move forward!
