Who's going to their city's Pride fest? I'm so excited, ours is 2nd July. I won't be able to do the whole day there, but after a double booking of kids' bday parties, I'm going to head up and represent!

That's not a bad idea... I need to find one that isn't too far away...

Two different organizations and individuals have asked me to march with them. Things were so much easier before the split! o_o

The closest major pride to me is in Atlanta in October (because June is too damn hot). I'm sure my best friend (who is bi and kind of my coming out coach) will absolutely make me go, haha. She has sometimes commented in stores about items I could wear. Speaking of, if I am productive today, I should go back and see if they still have that skirt for me to try on.

You guys are too lucky. I'm dying to go to a Pride parade, but, there's no possible way I could sneak off to one. He'd know to easily what I'm doing. He already knows what June is about. Ugh..life sucks. Ah well. I still have my YT videos, music, etc.

We always go. I've been to at least one Pride every year for at least twenty years. Here in Chicago we have a big fair one weekend and then a parade the next. Usually about a million people attend the parade. It's a lot of fun.

The closest to me is Philly, I don't have any queer friends, and I'd prefer not to go alone...

No plans this year, but I think they are great events. It's always a real shame to see some members of the LGBT community look upon Pride with derision. I totally get that it's not everyone's 'cup of tea', but some people seem to fundamentally misunderstand what Pride is about and why it remains so significant.

I will attend my little town's festival in a couple weeks. I have before as a "straight" supporter. This will be the first time I will go "out" with my wife. I am trying to convince an elderly gay man I know who just came out to party with us! Should be fun even though as Patrick mentioned...not really my cup of tea! But, it is a celebration of diversity!

Do you have any straight, supportive friends who might go with? They don't check gay cards at the door.

We had ours two weeks ago. It was my first Pride event, and it was unforgettable for me. I knew I couldn't stick around late due to a gig my band had out of town, so I actually volunteered to be part of the set-up team, worked the 8 am - noon shift. Most of my shift was hanging banners with zip-ties on city bus shelter backs. I made a couple of new friends. One of them (working my shift) was actually straight - she is involved with our local LGBT Center because of her grad school work, and she has a gay brother. She was amazingly supportive, very easy to come out to, she was great. It was a great day, I only wish I could have stuck around longer.

Katchoo- that means road trip, and Pride, all wrapped up in one!! Can't be better than that!

    OGS - that sounds amazing!!

I agree with Katchoo Cluster Gazelle  straight people go to pride too! Fwiw I'm probably going alone, though I may ask my friend if she wants to go.

PatrickUK -- why do some in the community look down on it?? I don't know any of this.

I actually DO have a queer friend, but she's in Louisiana. I honestly am only out to one friend who lives in state, and I'm not sure he'd be down to go. He HATES Philly(he's a gun nut, and won't go because he can't carry...he probably wouldn't be able to carry at Pride, regardless of location). Ugh.

It's in 10 days too, so not much time to come out and ask who wants to go.

Cluster gazelle - maybe consider going on your own, you may make new friends!

I wanted to put up this article here for anyone else thinking about Pride, because I enjoyed reading it. I knew a few of these things but not all. It's great to read about LGBT history, some brave men and women paved the way for us!

Not sure if I'll be going this year... The last couple of years, I've done an event in July, but I frankly don't have any enthusiasm this year. In the end, it didn't really leave me feeling particularly connected, nor did it offer any real chance for connection. But there sure were lots of hands out to withdraw cash from this Gay ATM.

My major reason for going last year was to acquire a new multicolor PFLAG bracelet.

I'd be interested in doing the Seattle Pride, which is probably considerably bigger and better, but it is hard getting there.

I've never been before. This was going to be my first year, but it turns out that I have already scheduled engagements on the day of the closest parade (the one at my state's capitol). Oh well, there's always next year...

I am considering it....but I probably won't. I'll probably be working anyway....plus I'd need an excuse as to why I'm going to Philly(I live with my family, and the DO NOT know).

I think I'll read that article though...

    Hey Butterfly,

Do you cycle? Even just recreationally? Why not start going out for rides on the weekends and swing by the parade when it rolls around?
