I've never felt as I do now, that wearing something could make me feel so naked.

(I'm wearing my new rainbow bracelet at work).

This tiny little bracelet, how can it evoke so many emotions? I have all of these thoughts pop up, well it starts as a twinge in my belly, followed by a thought, and with every thought, I keep reminding myself - I'm proud of who I am. I have to keep saying that phrase, which stands for a lot of other meaning - this bracelet represents not that I'm queer, it represents that I'm queer and I'm proud, that I'm queer and I choose to be visible. That I feel deeply that my identity's important. And I feel deeply that others' regard for my identity is *not* important.

Mind and belly say - why do you need to tell everyone you're queer?
    - I'm proud of who I am

Is it necessary to shout about who you are?
    - it's just a bracelet. It doesn't shout.

Is it juvenile to wear a braided bracelet?
    - why? What's more juvenile about my bracelet versus my coworker's converse chucks? That line of thinking is smoke and mirrors. Shush you.

Everyone's wondering why you're wearing a pride bracelet, since you've got a husband. Except those who dont know you've got a husband, they *know*.
    -cool beans.

The gay people think you're juvenile or too showy and the straight people are judging you for being queer.
-I'm proud of who I am.

    And so on....

    ---------- Post added 21st Jun 2016 at 04:41 AM ----------

and it's likely of course that nobody has noticed. Although I think one person whom I suspect is gay, did notice, and she gave me a bit of a "hmm interesting" smile, and one person who has made a weird comment about lesbians before, gave it a long look and made a not very pleasant face.

Either way, it's a step in overcoming shame, and I'm glad I'm wearing it.

Go you!! I am wearing this shirt today:

So if you think Converse or rainbow bracelets are juvenile... I am usually not too worried about what people think, but wearing this did make me a bit self-conscious at times. I live in a very good place to be gay though and no one has said anything, although this one woman at the store who is really awesome and who I have always suspected to be gay gave it a good look. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    Thanks for the encouragement

I really don't think converse chucks are juvenile, I wear them too! But I just have this nagging self judgment about the bracelet running through my head.

And by the way, you are such a cutie! And I love your tee shirt.

    Aw thanks! :icon_redf

I know what you mean about the self-judgement, I am constantly aware of my t-shirt and find myself wondering what some people who "look judgemental" think. I guess I am really the one stereotyping them haha!

I made that tee myself, but I don't think I am allowed to link to it. Then I also got this one (did not make this one):

And now that you told me about them, I also want a "nobody knows I'm a lesbian" shirt. This whole being gay thing is becoming expensive...

I want these t-shirts too! I'm waiting on a couple of cute ones I ordered - one that says I like Girls and another that says Love is Love with images of woman+woman, man+man, woman+man

Haha, I just ordered 3 shirts, so I'll have them by SF Pride.

    "No one knows I'm Gay"
"Feed me and tell me I'm pretty"

And the one that really makes me chuckle

"MILF - Merman Id like to F*ck"

My problem is that I really want these shirts, but I'd be too self conscious to wear them.

I love the gay t shirts, you should get some cluster!

    So....

I think that two women in the office really took note of my rainbow bracelet. One woman, I know is gay; the other woman I suspect. They were each at different times talking to me and really distracted by the bracelet. Looking at the bracelet then back to eye contact, then back to the bracelet, etc.

Totally agree! Go gay up your wardrobe cluster!

I bet they were hoping you were wearing it to show that you are queer but were not comfortable asking. I know I would wonder but avoid bringing it up right away, especially if that person is married. Still, people usually don't just randomly wear rainbow bracelets so I would probably ask if they kept it on for a week or more. Although if you ever wear one of your new tees to work no one has to wonder anymore.

I wore my other tee today and realized that people don't actually read t-shirts unless you stop to talk to them. I guess I will need to invest in a rainbow bracelet too! But my other favorite cashier (who is super cute btw) saw it and gave me a smile and I gave a big one back, so that was nice.

I'd love to! But I'm not really out yet, and I still live with my family who I'm not out to! Though I am considering it as a way of coming out....
