Today I was talking with someone who I forgot didn't know about my sexuality. I consider myself completely put now, but there are people who don't know simply because it's never come up. Well, this person is a supervisor for me and I mentioned something about the woman I'm dating, not even thinking about it (good steps, right?). Then, I saw the double take, she looked at the other person I was talking with. She corrected my pronouns, so I specifically recorrected her. Nothing else was said, but the facial expressions she gave and the altered pronouns made me super self concious. Now I feel anxious. Ugh. I thought I was past that feeling. Will it ever go completely away? I know there will always be people that assume I'm straight and will potentially react when I say things, but I'm resolved to speak normally and not hide any more. I want to say something about the women I like in the exact way I did when I was with men. :icon_redf

I think the problem lies with her not you.

Yes, I agree. Says more about her than you.

You sound like you're doing really well. (*hug*)

Rosepetals, good for you for being natural and open. She sounds like a homophobe.

Try not let it shake your confidence. Throw on a good queer music playlist, do some exercise, remind yourself that you are awesome.

Hmmm... queer music. Can you define this? I don't really have a concept of that. Other than "I don't do boys" by Elektra, which is a GREAT video, that is.

Don't forget Aaron Copland, Ned Rorem, Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein... or Jennifer Higdon, a contemporary classical composer who's also a lesbian. :newcolor:

If you're in the mood for a more modern playlist, there's always the Scissor Sisters. (!)

Bleh, this is crappy, but you got through it. Will that type of behavior ever stop? Maybe not, in our lifetime at least. So keep saying it like it's no big deal. We have to keep normalizing it (safely, of course) until it's not something warranting a glance or look of shock.

    Keep being proud!

First off, you are in a good place, so try not to have self doubt. Second, you are still on your journey which continues the rest of your life.

Recognise the feelings this event has raised, and as you continue to heal your emotional wounds, when this type of situation comes up again, and it absolutely will happen again, see how you react to it.

Each time you experience something similar, as you vintage to live authentically, Indo believe you will become less and less impacted by it.

I find it laughable that she actually tried to correct you, as if you don't know what you're saying. I'm petty so I would have talked to her like she was a moron. "Noo...I said SHE, as in WOMAN, a female, thank you." But then I might have gotten fired. lol

I did reply with "Yes, (insert very feminine name)...." and continued on.

You handled it really well. It's possible that she was just taken by surprise and didn't know how to react. She may even feel bad about it, you never know.
