This was really funny. I took the homophobia test that these researchers (I guess) distributed in their labs, and I scored a 75 (out of 100, I think), saying that I was homophobic. I said to myself, "geez, that would explain everything, I must really be repressing so much, I must be as gay as they come". I went back to check the results, and realized I gave my ratings (1-5) backwards. That for "strongly agree" I put "strongly disagree", and vice versa. I corrected my ratings, and it came out to the score of 25, which meant "high-grade non-homophobic", so I scored below average on the homophobia scale.

I was so shocked when it initially told me I was homophobic. Very surprised. Here, take the test yourselves...

I also scored as a "high-grade non-homophobic." But I did have some trouble with the test. One question asks if you try to find out if someone you meet is gay. Truthful answer: yes, but not for the reasons that might inspire homophobes to ask... Also there is a question about making jokes. I'm perfectly capable of telling jokes about anyone and anything...especially including myself.

Actually, LGBT people near me make me happier than non-LGBT people. I like being with "my own kind", whether they be gay men, transgender, bisexual, etc. It`s simply people I usually feel more comfortable around, than the straight A4 classic "normal" person. It sounds stupid when I write it like that, but I often feel that the straight A4 classic person belongs to a special supposed to be normal group, and I feel anything but A4 when it comes to most things.

    Hi,

I wouldn't know how to take the test from a personal standpoint.

Prior to this year I knew I was gay (always have been), but I was deeply closeted. Anyone familiar with the closet knows the issues. To remain closeted gaydar is exploited and you avoid anything gay to reduce the risk of outing yourself. You are also also watching yourself constantly to make sure you do nothing yourself to cause suspicion.

I know many will not understand this. Many will disapprove but I am being honest.

That was last year, this year is a new page and I am in transition. Things are totally different.

Don't get the wrong idea. I was never outwardly homophobic. I would never harm a gay person. I never discriminated. Well I guess I discriminated against myself.

For those reasons I could never get a realistic result from that quiz.

    I'm a 15. High grade non-homophobe.

I did find it interesting that this is quite a dated set of results. It'd be interesting to see what the results of a sample group from the same demographic would be today.

    18 (high-grade non-homophobe)

    (although 84.2...read "eighty-four-two"...is a mid-grade homophone *wink*)

I also reversed the scales at first...I didn't feel it was well done.

I feel terribly guilty for not being a 0. Ok, I admit it, after being in a monogamous relationship with a woman for 26 years, I *do* worry a *teensy* bit that a tempting chick will come on to me. And as a bisexual woman, when I look at an attractive gay man, a small selfish part of me does think "what a waste". Oh, I'm just an awful person!

Got an score of 20. Mainly because I make jokes about gay people and I try to know whether a person I know is gay or not, but I don't think either of those two things are homophobic. Of course, when talking about jokes there are a whole bunch of different kinds of jokes. Some are homophobic and some aren't.

my therapist tried to talk through homophobia with me -- and I didn't really get it. never been homophobic, ever, that I can recall.

So question 15 -- there was no choice "I hope so - nothing unwanted about the right guy making advances" ;-)

    15. I fear homosexual persons will make sexual advances towards me.

    Hi,

Took test anyway and scored an 8.

    Question 14 made me think twice;

"14. I feel that you cannot trust a person who is homosexual."

I feel I can trust openly gay people but closeted gays have hurt me emotionally in the past.

I made the assumption all questions related to open gays.

Incidentally, I have no idea which direction the 'try to figure out if someone's gay or not' question is scored. I could see this having nothing to do with homophobia - especially if the person is of a gender you're attracted to!

I got 20. Mostly because I fear putting myself in situations where I feel I could easily be outed. (Now whether those feelings are realistic or not is a "whole 'nother can of worms.")
