Andrew Cuomo because of some of the comments the governor made this month about people who oppose same-sex marriage. The governor was quoted in Gay City News as saying the following at a New York Times-sponsored forum:

“There is no answer from the opposition. There really isn’t. Ultimately, it’s, ‘I want to discriminate.’ And that’s anti-New York. It’s anti-American,” Cuomo was quoted as saying.

Cuomo pushed for and ultimately was able to secure enough votes for the controversial legislation to pass in the Senate in June. The law took effect in July.

McGuire said he was offended by the comments. ”It is one thing to disagree on an issue of public policy, but it is quite another to question the patriotism of 150 million (or more) Americans,” he said in a statement...

I want a apology from the reverend for infringing upon my consitutitonally mandated right to be free from religious interference in my goverment.

Why do bigots always go for the 'patriotism' excuse? First of all, the Founding Fathers were deists. Second, patriotism is supporting the American 'spirit,' the idea that we all work together to make this country what it is. If you don't want to religiously officiate LGBT wedding ceremonies, fine. They'll find another church (building or denomination) that is more accepting.

This is akin to using a baby as a shield. How could you kill a baby? These idiots like to use patriotism and family as shields to defend against having to face any challenges to their beliefs.

Sorry, but wrapping yourself in the American flag and accusing other people of not being patriotic enough or attacking your patriotism rings hollow to me.
