More and more people are speaking out against bullying, but the practice remains distressingly common in the nation's schools. All too often, gay teens are the victims. The newest example is especially disturbing.

In Chillicothe, Ohio, a 15-year-old gay teen was beaten in a school classroom. The incident was captured on camera, revealing a classroom full of students who did nothing to break up the assault.

The attacking student has received a three-day suspension, but Rebecca Collins, mother of the student who was beaten, says this isn't enough. She is pursuing her options with law enforcement. Her son, who was also harassed on Facebook, suffered a possible concussion and a chipped tooth in the attack. You can watch the video footage of the assault after the jump, but should be warned that it makes for disturbing viewing.

This makes me so sad. This is just so disgusting. 3 day suspension? Are they serious? Schools have done worse for their "no drug tolerance" rule when a kid brings a Tylenol for a headache. This is a crime, no matter the age of the bully. I wish the very best luck to the mother, and I hope that that boy does not have to go through such a thing again. And yes, where was the teacher? This is why the educational system is a joke now. The kids can't even feel safe and be themselves at school anymore. How terrible. And they say that "the future is in our hands"? Well, I feel very sorry for the future then.

... And no one came to help? A teacher or some other students? If a group of other kids had dogpiled that dude and someone else had called 911... But maybe it's not good to expect other people to get involved in a fight. Still, sitting on someone and calling the cops is a fairly passive way of dealing with a bully I'd think.

I hope they get that brat on assault. Poor kid that got beaten. :/ Good on the person who caught it on tape, though. Hopefully they were taping it for a GOOD reason and not because they thought it was funny. Still, it's proof!

Even back when I was a high school student about ten years ago, kids would just encircle two fighting students and even cheer them on as if they were watching a WWE match. I wonder when violence and aggression became the preferred methods of solving one's problems, no matter how small or irrational.

Administrators who coddle bullies don't deserve to remain in their positions. Their responsibility is to ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment for their students. There is absolutely no excuse for letting these miscreants get off easy, even if the parents are essentially bullies themselves.

If the school system does nothing about it then one can rest assured karma/fate will do something. Usually these bullies are the kind of people with little intelligence or any talent or redeeming factor to their name and will more than likely end up miserable at some point in his life. School punishment won't do squat. I'd imagine he would think of it as a reward than a punishment...three days of putting your feet up. Then again, he is going to have assault down on his permanent record. That should bite him in the ass at some point in his life hopefully.

They do almost nothing about anything. Fighting, it's a 3 day suspension. They do nothing about bullying.
