Pullen Baptist takes a stand for gay marriage - Religion - NewsObserver.com

The full congregation of Raleigh's Pullen Memorial Baptist Church voted Sunday to prohibit the church pastor from legally marrying anyone until she can legally marry same-sex couples under North Carolina law.

The congregants said in a formal statement that current North Carolina law - and the language proposed for a vote next year on an amendment to the state Constitution - discriminates against same-sex couples "by denying them the rights and privileges enjoyed by heterosexual married couples."

"As people of faith, affirming the Christian teaching that before God all people are equal, we will no longer participate in this discrimination," the church's statement says.

Good to know. I wish these churches would pipe up more often, because the homophobic Christians are so freaking loud they're drowning the other voices out.

What I think is interesting about this church is that they started in 1992 supporting same-sex marriage rights. thats really before any state had actually started to tackle with it seriously. I think there was apart of canada that was grappling with same-sex marriage rights, but as far as I remeber, we didnt see hawaii until 1994.

That is why when I'm old enough, I will convert to the American Baptist Churchs USA. Not only do they accept homosexuality, but they allow women to become priests. Awsome!

I hear you. The problem seems to be that most of the accepting churches (of which there are a lot... and increasing every day) don't do or say ridiculous things so they are not in the media.

Its hard to be louder media-wise when you compete with the Westboro Baptist Church and friends ;P

Calvinist tend to get alot of the media attention, because you can't argue with a Calvinist, because they are beyond even the most basic forms of reason... and WBC takes calvinisem very seriously.
