COMMENTARY | During the 758th Republican presidential debate* (*not the actual number), Newt Gingrich gave America the homophobic retort for which the self-righteous have searched as far as the red-stated eye could see. According to Crooks & Liars, he called questions about basic rights for people who happen to love people of the same sex "anti-Christian bigotry." See video (5:20), complete with a refrain of the increasing paranoia that "anti-Christian bigotry" is now more common than any other bigotry (5:55).

Laws that require us treat our fellow Americans like fellow Americans are, under this theory, infringing on the "right" of Christians to pick and choose the rights of others. Not allowing them to do so, it appears, is now "bigotry." ...

You really can't argue with a fundementalist christian. First you have to get them to look up from their mistresses/hookers/secret gay lover, then you have to teach them how to read, since fundementalist christians like Santorum and Gingritch have to be illiterate, otherwise they would know what Jesus actually says, which means they would neither be Fundementalist, nor conservatives. then you have to remind them to stop fucking around with their mistresses/hookers/secret gay lover, since now that they can read, guess what, their mistresses/hookers/secret gay lovers are not included on jesus's list of appropriate behavior. then you have to remind them that jesus was not american, but a middle easterner, and that he did not say we should bomb iran.

then you just give up, and remeber that idiots are a fact of life.

I do not promote the banning of Bacon myself, but what I love to no end about the right wing is that they have never been able to make a valid arguement against gay rights, but all we have to do is change a few words in their arguement to prove with ease how idiotic they are on the civil rights of others.

I love that Newt Gingrich thinks there is so "much more anti-christian bigotry than any other kind today". My dad thinks the same thing and every time he says it I just list the two or so real cases or anti-christian bigotry every year, and then I list the many many more cases of christians being bigots. Most of the time he simply responds with "That's not discrimination because it's in the bible"

If the bible didn't exist, there would still be poeple grasping at straws for a reason to hate us. They just don't understand; they are ignorant. They fear and loathe what they do not understand. They don't realize that their hate is not only a cause for suffering for many good people, it is the cause of their own suffering as well.

Newt and the rest of the pack are still clinging to the pro-discrimination talk to appeal to the gop base. Anti-Christian bigotry is such bs and to keep saying that to rile up the gop base is anti-Christian in and of itself. Christians are supposed to be kind and turn the other cheek and love thy neighbor, not get other people all angry about a false issue. That's bearing false witness to incite anger toward your neighbor. I wish people would realize that those who lie to make their case are always wrong. I guess the problem is that these people don't recognize the lies because they've heard the lies for so long they think they're the truth. Really sad
