The Petition Thread

I just thought about the fact that there are a lot of petitions going around on the internet dealing with a wide range of social issues, and i thought "hey why not make a thread where people can post about issues important to them and inspire others to take action?" So here it is.

Basically if there is a petition you want people to sign or some other action taking request is available for a particular social issue. Make the request of our community to support it in this thread

I'm assuming stuff like this is safe for EC as i didn't see any way for people to contact each other through those petition sites.

"Fight Back: Congress Pushing Broad Internet Snooping Bill

"A direct assault on Internet users" is what the ACLU is calling it. A U.S. House committee has already approved HR 1981, a broad new Internet snooping bill.

They want to force Internet service providers to keep track of and retain their customers' information -- including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses.

And get this: It's authored by lead SOPA sponsor Lamar Smith.

ISPs would collect and retain your data whether or not you're accused of a crime. Supporters shamelessly dubbed it the "Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act," but our staunchest allies in Congress are calling it what it is: an all-encompassing Internet snooping bill."

Tell the board of Susan G. Komen for a Cure: Don't throw Planned Parenthood under the bus!


The Republican plan to defund Planned Parenthood is working -- but if we take action now we may be able to stop the latest attack on women's right to health care.

It was just announced that Susan G. Komen for a Cure, America's largest charity to fight breast cancer, will no longer fund a program that provides free or low-cost breast cancer screenings for millions of women who get their health care from Planned Parenthood.1 This is a huge blow.

In abruptly pulling nearly $1,000,000 in funding for breast cancer screenings, the Susan G. Koman foundation cited a sham "investigation" into Planned Parenthood launched by Republican Rep. Cliff Stearns, one of the most militant anti-choice members of Congress.2 We have to stand up and fiercely defend Planned Parenthood -- and show Susan G. Komen and others who are considering caving to the radical right that we will not let extremists defund health care providers for women who include reproductive health services.
