Hi everyone, Im a mom, and my 18 yr old gay son wanted his toenails painted. I have no problem with that at all. Im just wondering about the colors he wants to use. I dont know much about this. I thought most guys only wanted to paint their fingernails, gay or straight. I also thought most of them use dark colors or black most of the time. My son picked a forest green and medium denium blue. He wanted green on one foot and blue on the other. So I painted them for him ha. Im just wondering what everyone thinks about the colors he chose. You see, my son also has Aspergers (high functioning Autism). He is very social and does very well in school. One of his weakness's are matching/cordinating clothes, so now Im wondering if maybe his choice of nail polish is off. Meaning I dont know what the "in" thing is for gay men as far as nail polish. Thank you

I'll admit to not knowing terribly much about matching colors, but perhaps he just likes being quirky?

As far as I know those colors are not a particular "thing."

  3. Lol. You're a great mom. Stick around this site!

As for toenail painting - I really don't think there is a particular gay *way to do it* - I've honestly never come across a guy who paints his toenails, gay or straight! Not that it's weird or strange - hell now you've given me the idea, I might paint mine in rainbow colours for my local pride march. Sounds cool.

Basically, the short answer is - he can have them painted any way he likes.

I'm far from an expert on this, but to my knowledge from those who have more awareness of current fashion and culture, there's no specifically "in" colors for gay men, nor any colors that send any particular message.

It sounds like your son is having fun and enjoying expressing himself. I wouldn't worry about it

I can only agree with the comments that were left before, let your son paint his nails in whatever colors he wants i do not see a problem with this... I do not think that there are particular fashion trends for particular sexualities either.

There is no gay way to paint your toenails, or anything else, really. In the end, all that matters is that he likes it and is happy.

    This x1000.

And my finger nails are painted right now (actually only four nails have polish on them cuz the polish peeled and fell off the others lol) and they're a fab dark/hot pink glitter colour. And i painted them this colour cuz i liked it. That's all it is and as Aldrick said all that matters.

Like other people have said, there isnt a gay way to paint nails~ however, LGBT people may choose to have one finger with a rainbow, usually the third one ^.^

I'm having fun with sparkle nail polish on my fingernails. That's only because I like how it looks. There are worse things than a slight clash of toe nail polish. There used to be a color code for bracelets but I think it may have passed.

  12. seen as he likes to match outfits/colours. was he wearing anything green or blue at the time? maybe why he chose those colours.

Thanks for the compliment! I thought it was normal for guys to paint their fingernails, but I never heard of the toenails ha. I guess its ok by what eveyone is saying. I think my son likes rainbow colors. He has gone through many changes since coming out. The color thing is very new to me. He has worn mostly black and dark colors all his life. Thanks for your comment!

nailpolish trends are alien for me, I guess it's ok for him to paint them whatever way he wants I'm not even sure if there's a trend and nail polish looks pretty in everyone so I guess its ok for him to have fun and play with the colors

Oh God. That is awesome. You are awesome. I want to hug you.

Let them be the color he wanted, it is part of him. Tho I can understand your concerns.

Tho' I feel like accidental gay, most of the time it's like I don't even have any gay bone in my body. I am just a man who can only fall in love with other men.

Hugs again both to you and your son.

Wow i'm glad there are cool moms out there like you. Your son is extremely fortunate to have an awesome mom as yourself. As far as coloring fingernails and toenails. I do both but that's mainly because as of late i present myself as female when i go out. But when it comes to the colors i choose the colors based on outfit if i wear open toe shoes. Your son likes to pick random colors which is okay because the colors chosen depends on the individual. So it's nice that your son is very expressive through colors. It all depends on what's he's in the mood for.
