my good friend came out to me as trans today. his parents don't know and are transphobic, and school isn't really a good environment for him either. what are some ways i could be a good and supportive ally to him?

Talk to him a lot and try to emphasize on his preferred name and pronouns. Since he won't hear them a lot until he comes out, this might make him feel better. Make sure he knows you're available to talk if he needs to. Also, make sure he knows he's not bothering you with this.

I'm in a similar situation since one friend recently told me he is trans as well. Being trans myself, I can guide him better, but I'm essentially doing what I listed above. Hope that helps.
