I had my first two-way unsafe oral sex in June, 5 days after which I had a throat infection with white spots on tonsils, which my general physician doctor said was a staphylococcus aureus infection and an ENT specialist said was tonsilitis. After a week's use of some tablets/antibiotics, that infection went away but I started seeing my foreskin was peeling and having small white fungus like residues inside all the time. Someone on this forum suggested it wasn't likely to be an STD but a fungal infection. I went to a dermatologist some days later and he said the same thing and gave me an anti-fungal cream (cortisone or something) along with a few tablets to be taken for 4 days and asked me to come visit him after 7 days. I also had some reddish allergy around the testicles but that went away with the cream being applied outside also.

I applied the cream for almost 10 days and the thing seemed better. I didn't go back to the derma because of his high fees and thought it would be gone now so I stopped using the cream. As soon as I did that, the white thread-like residues are back, along with some irritating sensation and slight throbbing pain for like 5 seconds, once or twice a day. Everything like before.

Now, I'm really worried. Should I just continue applying the anti-fungal cream or go back to the derma? I thought fungal infections would go away in 10 days. Does it take more time to go? Can this be an STD? I'm lost.

I do think this very odd as engaging in oral and receiving a throat infection + penis infection at the same time sure would be a massive coincidence. Also, to my knowledge fungal infections of the foreskin don't cause penis pain, especially a throbbing pain, but rather just itch and feel uncomfortable/inflamed.

If you really want to get this sorted out, I'd go to a sexual health clinic and tell them exactly what you've told us here, as they'd be able to test for a wide range of things. In addition, they'd be able to clarify whether or not you have an STD, to take your mind off of worrying about it, as those types of thoughts are rather parasitic, as soon as they get in your mind they aren't getting out.

    All the best.

I think I'm exaggerating if I say "throbbing pain" actually. It's a very minor, slight, extremely momentary 2 second throbbing sensation (not really "painful) I experience like just once a day, or maybe two. It might just be connected to that fungal infection. You know, it's that kind of pinchy pain you get due to excessive masturbation. But I've hardly been masturbating like once in 2 days or something and not even roughly or anything. The only time I did it roughly and twice in a short time was during the oral sex.

What I'm worried about is why the fungal infection hasn't gone inspite of applying the cream for 10 days. It's really embarassing in my country to go to a sexual health clinic and tell them I'm gay.

Have you always been able to peel back your foreskin or have you only been able to recently?

The reason I ask is because your description of the fungus does sound quite a lot like smegma. This is a naturally occurring substance that accumulates below the foreskin, so if you are new to peeling back your foreskin you may not recognise it and are mistaking it for a fungal infection.

Did the dermatologist actually look at your penis when he prescribed you the anti-fungal?

I think you're mixing up "peel" and "pull". Yes, I have been able to pull back my foreskin only recently. But I surely know it's not smegma. Because smegma is yellowish and smells. This is the sunburn type of skin peels. I clean up smegma all the time so this is different for sure.

Yes, he did look at it. I'm going to him again right now.

I visited the derma again. He gave me a new ointment called Flutibact (apply little, twice a day) and said I don't need to get tested for STDs. I'm still afraid though.

Fungal infections can take a while to resolve. The problem is that fungus is a naturally occurring commensal- it co-exists with human and feeds on the dead skin cells on the surface of our skin. During the summer or after antibiotics, it can get a bit out of control. So, the creams that your doctor has prescribed are slowing the growth of the fungus and it takes a while for the normal balance to return.

The other thing that you can do is to use soap and water and a washcloth to gently remove the dead cells from the surface of your skin. You can also try to keep the area as dry as possible- dry well after you bathe or shower (use a blow dryer on cool if needed) and be sure to dry and change clothing if you get sweaty.
