Hi I don't expect this thread to be long, but this question bugs me for a long time. They say that we should sleep at least 8 hours a day, but what is the "healthiest" time to go in bed. I usually sleep at 11:30 pm or 12:00 am.

I have a crazy sleep schedule. I go to sleep at 9pm and wake up at 4:30am. I then run/workout and am at work at 6am. I am then done with work by 3:15pm and have the rest of the day free.

Everything I've read indicates you should be sleeping when it's dark, but I don't know if the time of day matters if you can somehow eliminate all light. Supposedly, even tiny bits of light can make a difference in health. Researchers have found associations between some cancers and sleeping with ambient light, especially in people working the night shift.
