So I'm writing this coming of age LGBT story. It's about puberty, finding a lover, avoiding drama. Just your typical unoriginal BS.

Masturbating is a thing in the story. See as silly as it may sound, masturbating is a huge part of growing up for guys. We do it because we have a need to release sperm and it plays a huge part in exploring your sexuality.

But being a guy, I have trouble imagining a girl's point of view. I mean obviously girls are capable of masturbating. But does it play that much of a role?

How do they discover it, how often do they do it, and do they think of someone when they do it? Guys just look up porn but girls have a different mentality. I hope some of you are willing to help me...

Girls look up porn too and don't let them tell you otherwise haha. I'm certain it's almost the same reason that guys masturbate, it's not so much a release of sperm, but a release in itself. I feel more relaxed etc after I have an orgasm, I imagine it's the same feeling for a girl. They have to explore themselves just as much as we do, and I'm sure have just as much fun (if not more) doing so.

I don't remember how I even discovered masturbation, I think a friend told me about it when I was young. And like guys they do it as often as they want to, and sometimes not at all. I'm just going with what girls have told me (I hung out with a big group of girls in high school and didn't have any male friends). And I'm sure they often think of someone in particular when they do it, when they aren't watching porn :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

HealthyStrokes.com has a wide variety of sexual information that you could use. It talks about anatomy, techniques, and the author of the site will answer personal questions, many of which are published anonymously onto the site. The author has also conducted many surveys to try to give accurate advice to people.

As for my personal experiences, mine might not be the best to go on because I'm Grey-A. I discovered masturbating in preschool because I was bored one day during nap-time. I usually do it 1-10 times a month, but according to HealthyStrokes, that is below average. I usually imagine erotic stories in my head while I do it (not anyone in particular, usually just nameless people). If I feel like it, I might watch porn, but I prefer to read it because then I feel like I have more of an emotional connection to the characters. I don't know what you mean by it playing a huge role growing up. If you mean thinking about it a lot, then I don't really. I only think about it a few days a month. However, according to HealthyStrokes, many girls do it everyday or every-other day, so it might have a bigger role for them.

I really suggest you look at the site. It has a lot of information on what the "average" girl does, so that could help you with your story.

(Wow, I just confessed all of this to a total stranger. heheh...:icon_redf Oh well, I did it in the name of research!)

Very well, I guess I'll have to go look at that site. Thanks for the Intel. Emotional attachment to characters in porn? I didn't know that was a thing. Though I guess it would explain why erotic novels are mainly popular amongst women.

I don't know if it's really emotional attachment, but I do find the characters to be a kind of window of experience. When I read it, the author shows me how the character feels, so I can imagine it myself. But when I watch it, the whole thing seems very detached and mechanical. I don't know what the people are thinking. Do they like it? Do they like each other? I guess I just want some back-story and plot to go with the "action".

Now you really have me wondering. When most guys watch porn they just care about the sex. But then there's individuals that like for there to be à way for them to relate. I guess it makes sense.
