I started a poll the other day wanting to find a link between introversion and athleticism
What I found was actually interesting, since 50% of the people who voted were introverts who didn't work out(self included); and only 2% were extroverts who said they didn't work out.

But I would like the people who DO work out to share their story!

Did you start late? What motivated you to start? What keeps you going?

Did you start working out as a kid? Who put you up to the task?

I started working out as an adult. I never played sports as a kid.

I lack hand eye coordination, so I just work out at the gym instead. I started doing so last year. You don't need hand-eye coordination to lift weights, so that's good for me

What do you mean by working out? Lifting weights or just sports again?

I wish I didn't suck at math. I'm a good athlete but horrible student.

Closest match to me, I think. I do get some exercise. But...I am not one of those who play sports, and I definitely don't hit the gym each day. For that matter, the closest I ever come to a gym is walking past one on my way to a pool where I sometimes swim.

I'm more one to do school work and be a computer/console gaming nerd/ geek ( what ever you call us) then do sports I hate it and try to bunk off it or sat on the ground and listen to music and not move even if the teacher is shouting at me.

I played sports as a kid but was never any good at them at all. The "highlight" of my athletic career was when I took jujitsu in high school and the sensei was demonstrating a move on me where he was supposed to karate chop my knee. He missed and karate chopped somewhere MUCH more painful than my knee...

Absolutely! I did run around a lot in Ocarina of Time.
On a more serious note, I was quite overweight as a kid, until I was 15. I wanted change so I went out and got it.
By the way, I went from 183 pounds to 143 And now I weigh 205. Kinda funny.

I played a year of football in high school, and coached two years after wrecking my knee. Being a gay football player wasn't that bad. Everybody on the team knew, I just wasn't ready to actually come out about it. My first year of coaching, I was out and about and it turned into a huge joke among the players. Even the other coaches really didn't care/say anything.

I never found a sport that I was really good at as a kid, so by high school I had kind of given up. I only started running after I finished my undergraduate degree, and just kind of went from there. Sometimes I wish I could have started earlier, it would have been better for me.

I've been working out off and on since the beginning of high school. However, last year one of my teachers encouraged me to start running and I ended up loving it! Now I do track, XC, and my favourite is doing long distance races (10k and half marathons). I'm so glad that I actually found something that I love to do and I might even try the full marathon next year!

As they say, can you run for 5 km, you can run for 10. Can you run for 10, you can run a half marathon. Kan you do that, you can run a whole marathon! Go for it!

Being active is very important in my family. I started with soccer when I was 5, and by the time I was 7 I was in every single sport my youth club offered. I even started taking private tennis lessons on the side. I had to give up organized sports once school started to take up all of my time, but I still hit the gym every week and set up mini-tourneys with friends.
