Seriously, I can't. I get really painful acid reflux from it. This sucks because I just bought a 6-pack and couldn't even finish one. Just part of one upsets my stomach so much that I can't even finish it. It makes me really sad because I like beer, and I like do drink, but I have a hard time tolerating it. More than likely, this is a good thing, but it bothers me. Does anyone else have a similar issue?
I've never had that problem, but then again I don't think I've ever really had heartburn or reflux. Have you tried taking a tums or rolaid before drinking?
Do you smoke or have a spicy diet, justjade? Because these can definitely exacerbate, if not cause acid reflux issues. I used to suffer horribly from this problem, but ever since I cut certain of my old staples from my diet, stomach disturbances are greatly reduced. Thank god or I wouldn't be enjoying this Heineken right now.
Are you sure it's just a beer-related phenomenon? I used to have acid reflux problems (though it wasn't beer-related). If you actually suffer acid reflux disease, you should treat it. Prilosec (Omeprazole) is available over-the-counter now, it's a proton pump inhibitor that will reduce the acid. It's a more long-term solution. You take it every day for 14 days, though it takes a few days to work. It treats frequent heartburn and acid reflux. But otherwise, have you tried taking other antacids that will reduce acid? If you're having acid reflux occur, you should take something like Tums or Rolaids or Maalox or Di-Gel to stop it quickly. Otherwise, an hour or so before you drink the beer, you should take something like Zantac or Tagamet to prevent the acid reflux from occurring.
I took a Tums before drinking, yes. ---------- Post added 27th Apr 2014 at 11:56 AM ---------- I do smoke, and I love spicy foods. Also, my husband says Heineken tastes like skunk smells, but I've never tried it, so I couldn't tell you. ---------- Post added 27th Apr 2014 at 11:59 AM ---------- I have been diagnosed with acid reflux in the past. It seems like, anymore, that there aren't many things that trigger it. Spicy food doesn't really bother me. Beer and large quantities of fruit are the things that upset my stomach the worst. I remember having a problem with grape juice when I was younger, and my family thought it was weird. It's not strictly beer-related, but beer upsets my stomach more than anything.
*psssttt* Alcohol is a dehydrating agent. It pulls water out of your epithelial cells. Why do you think it burns going down in high alcohol content beverages?
I knew that, but I guess I didn't put the two together. ---------- Post added 27th Apr 2014 at 01:04 PM ---------- :eusa_eh:
Yea I've done a lot of drinking lately...As you all know. I'm definitely needing to stay hydrated and ... bought wrinkle cream lately. Shut up... Water is the best. Drink it.
Hey Kase, have any experience with red ale IPA's? (Haha, I know, what a question. "Know anything about math, grandpa?" <--- Einstein's grandkid.) Anyway, got a friend who highly recommended this Imperial IPA to me. Thinking I should spin out tomorrow and see if I could scrounge up a four-pack. But maybe you could save me a trip if your educated buds have something to advise otherwise? G'Knight Imperial Red Ale | Oskar Blues Grill & Brew | Lyons, CO | BeerAdvocate
I do like chocolate. Yeah, I don't really need beer. I mean, if it has to be done, it has to be done. I'll just have to quit. I can't even justify my liking of booze, which is the crazy thing. I don't know why I drink. I don't even drink that much. I just do occasionally. ---------- Post added 28th Apr 2014 at 01:03 AM ---------- Water is good. I've been trying to drink more of it since I've been taking in a lot of coffee, too. It's been hard to stay away when I'm at work.
